The Carl Büttner shipping company receives SAACKE scrubber and boiler for 4 + 2 new ship builds
Installation on tankers NB no. HT-CT38-009 provides the go-ahead for the major project
The Bremen-based shipping company Carl Büttner GmbH & Co. KG, specializing in the operation and management of oil and chemical tankers, is opting for scrubbers and steam boilers by SAACKE GmbH for its new builds at the Chinese dock Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. First of all, the first four of up to six 38,000 DWT chemical tankers were ordered.
This is already the second time that Büttner is realizing this type of project in cooperation with the Bremen-based maker for industrial and maritime combustion technologies. Since 2014, a SAACKE Hybrid Multistream scrubber has been in permanent use on the 140-meter long tanker MT Levana and reliably achieves the applicable limit values for sulfur emissions on the North Sea and Baltic Sea. The shipping company justifies the renewed order with its positive experiences and successful cooperation with SAACKE.
“Exhaust gas scrubbers for the maritime sector are a complex undertaking from planning through to commissioning, in which a tried-and-tested product and efficient project management are fundamental for a smooth process,” says Lars Bremer, Managing Director of Carl Büttner Shipmanagement GmbH. “We have already successfully integrated a scrubber system into our fleet in cooperation with SAACKE. We can now expand upon this expertise and receive a system which optimally complements our requirements.”
99 percent sulfur separation and live data monitoring'
The new-build ships are equipped with type FMB-VM and CMB-VS SAACKE boilers and an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS). The first two systems will be installed in the fourth quarter of 2018. The hybrid Multistream Scrubber can be operated using an Open-Loop mode and the Zero-Discharge Mode, and achieve a 99-percent sulfur separation. The SAACKE EGCS Management System records all relevant measurement data in real time. These are also available online for the user on land and can also open up potential savings across the entire shipping operation. The exhaust cleaning systems for Büttner are set up for one main engine and three auxcillary diesels with a total output of 7.5 MW. To guarantee even greater future security with regard to IMO specifications, SCR catalysts are also planned. SAACKE supplies the shut-off damper systems for this. “Our exhaust gas cleaning system is tested in practice and certified by DNV-GL. In the knowledge of being able to carry out projects of this magnitude, we are approaching this order full of anticipation,” adds Nils Homburg, Manager Exhaust Gas Cleaning Department at SAACKE.
