HEAVY FUEL OIL (HFO).

Proven fuel for international shipping

Heavy fuel oil (HFO) is a residue from petroleum refining and is one of the most commonly used marine fuels worldwide due to its cost-effectiveness. It is very viscous at ambient temperature and contains a high proportion of sulfur. The main advantage of HFO is its low price and worldwide availability – many engines are designed to run on it. However, heavy fuel oil causes significant emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter, and soot. In emission control areas (ECAs), HFO may only be used with complex exhaust gas aftertreatment systems such as scrubbers. SAACKE offers tailor-made solutions for operation with heavy fuel oil, including efficient burner technologies, to reliably meet environmental requirements.
