13. BImSchV (German Federal Emission Control Ordinance) contains challenges for combustion plant operators

There is a need for action within the German small and mid-sized business sector / SAACKE solution lowers emissions without reducing output

Operators of combustion plants with a minimum thermal output of 50 MW are presented with a huge challenge across all sectors. The reason is the thirteenth Ordinance for implementing the German Federal Emission Control Act for large-scale combustion plants, gas turbines and combustion engine systems (13th BImSchV). This ordinance tightens emission limits in Germany in the context of the EU minimum standard – the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED). This will be effective for existing plants as of 1/1/2016, while new plants have been required to comply with the new standards since 1/1/2014. In practice, this means: nitrogen oxide emissions for natural gas combustion plants are subjected to a limit value of 100 mg/m3 - a third lower than in 2013. "Large businesses and groups have already complied or have made plans to ensure that their existing plants comply. Small to mid-sized businesses are just becoming aware – so there is definitely a need for action", explains Dr. Norbert Schopf, Director Business Development at SAACKE GmbH.
